Introduction: Comprehensive Hospice Care

Q: Tell us about ArcHouse: What is it, and how did ArcHouse start?

A: ArcHouse is a comprehensive operations platform designed specifically for hospice care. It simplifies and enhances how hospices manage their admissions by automating key processes like medical record collection, insurance verification, requests, signatures, and more. 

Losing a loved one is a tough experience in its own right, and to have this pain further compounded by complex operational challenges makes the experience even more difficult. Hospice care is designed to provide comfort and support to both patients and their families, yet some of the inefficiencies rooted in overwhelming paperwork, faxes, and phone calls have played a large part in delaying much-needed care.

In 2021, Paul's grandfather was admitted to hospice for end-stage lung disease, and the process was full of operational challenges that are all too common. This is why we started ArcHouse, and our goal is to build the hospice infrastructure that ensures millions of patients receive the care they deserve in their final days.

Problem: Inefficiencies in Pre-Admission

Q: What pain points did you encounter early on in your journey building ArcHouse?

A: The pre-admission process in hospice care is often marked by delays, inefficiencies, and fragmented information flow, hurting the quality and speed of patient care when it matters most. Slow medical record access is a major factor with delays. Since critical medical information is scattered across different systems and providers, it is difficult for hospice teams to quickly obtain a full view of a patient's medical history. We encountered this problem firsthand when starting ArcHouse—which led us to Metriport as a solution.

Solution: Medical Histories in Seconds via API

Q: How did Metriport come into play, and what was the integration experience like for your team?

A: We were immediately impressed by how seamless and straightforward it was to integrate Metriport into our system. Speed of access and data accuracy were key for us, and Metriport has delivered on both fronts. Having reliable, well-structured data at our fingertips has been a game-changer for ensuring our hospice providers can make informed decisions quickly.

Dima (Co-Founder & CEO at Metriport) and the team have been exceptional partners of ours from the beginning of this process. They provided proactive support throughout implementation and continue to be responsive to any questions, feature requests, and more. Since we started working with them (now over a year ago!), they have continuously innovated on the product and improved our experience.

Q: What data from Metriport is most important to you? Are you leveraging the API in specific?

A: The data that's most valuable to us is past procedure information, as well as conditions and diagnostic reports. We fully integrated Metriport’s API into our platform, which now powers our entire medical record retrieval process. The API is very well-documented and user-friendly, allowing us to go from evaluation to deployment in just a few days.

One of our customers shared an impactful story about how their team accessed and reviewed a patient's full medical history during a weekly meeting. In doing so, they discovered a previously missed cardiac condition which was not mentioned by the family, nor included in the referral face-sheet. This critical finding allowed the hospice to provide necessary care, ensuring the patient received the comprehensive support they needed in their final days.
